In celebrating the 10th DEKALB SuperSpiel, we turned our attention to what has made this so successful.  Of course our sponsors make this event possible but the “small town Hospitality” wouldn’t happen without all our volunteers. Last year, we had over 150 volunteers that helped with the preparation and the hosting of our event. Visit our volunteers page of the website to see the listing of our various committees. We have volunteers to look after the curlers, the media and the sponsors. We have volunteers to drive to pick up curlers from the airport and return them when they are through competing. We have volunteers that make sure there is food in the lounge for the volunteers, players and sponsors. We have volunteers that look after the bar so that fans, volunteers and sometimes curlers can have a refreshment.  We have volunteers to look after fund raising including our famous “Bill” our 50/50 man. You haven’t experienced 50/50 selling until you hear from our Bill. It is hard to say no. We have volunteers that plan our pre and post event parties for our sponsors and volunteers. We have volunteers that look after the teams and draw making sure that team names are up on the scoreboards and results entered promptly. We have volunteers to decorate and set up the lounges and change rooms and look after other aspects of the facilities.

Over the 10 events, we have a total of over 350 different people that have volunteered and 28 that have been involved in all 10 events. This is real dedication to making this spiel one that is remembered by fans, sponsors and curlers alike. What a wonderful community we live and play in to have this kind of support! How fortunate we are to live where we do!
